Posted June 14, 2007 Comments(0) 3G is third-generation technology in the context of mobile phone standards. 3G was launched by the end of 2001 which use a host of high-tech infrastructure networks, handsets, base stations, switches and other equipment to allow mobiles to offer high-speed Internet access, data, video and CD-quality music services. 3G (Third Generation) is also known as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System).
With 3G Techhnology, users will be able to surf the Internet, view pictures of the people they are talking to, watch movies and listen to music on their handsets. This is also possible with GPRS technology. The major difference between these technology is that 3G is able to transfer data at a faster rate. Data speeds in 3G networks should be show speeds of to up to 2 Megabits per second, an increase on current technology. This is almost 10 times faster than the GPRS technology.
